Game of Thrones 5.3 Recap

Wow, this was an awesome episode. I'm so stressed out about what's coming!!

I will admit that I'm less concerned about getting the books finished now, as the show seems to have taken quite the detour. I don't really mind that, since it means less is ruined in both versions for me, although I have to admit I'm a bit of a purist and it does drive me insane to some degree as well. I guess I'm less upset since I am behind in my reading, but I can imagine fans must be displeased.

Either way, things have really been intensified.

Can I just say how much I hate Margaery Tyrell? I have hated her since the beginning and I am glad she's being shown to be as manipulative and conniving as she really is. Maybe now people will have a bit more sympathy for Cersei, too, who is also manipulative, but if she's a villain, how can anyone like Margaery? Goodness, she should marry Baelish and they can be the most evil couple ever.

Speaking of Baelish, ugh. What is he doing? I know this is a variation from the books, but Ramsay?! This episode should have been called, "A Bunch of Liars." Ramsay's little sweet and kind act is ridiculous (I love the actor, but he is a pure sociopath.).

Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 2

Okay, now that I've said that, on to the show. I really loved this episode. One, it featured my favorite characters and gave us a lot of development for each of them, and two, it showed us some real emotional struggle for many of them.

Game of Thrones Season 5: Episode 1 Thoughts (Mostly Spoiler Free)

I am not going to recap the first episode from Game of Thrones Season 5, simply because I think you can get that elsewhere and also because you still may not have watched it (except... why?). However, I did want to share some thoughts on it, as well as some general thoughts on the series as a whole. I am trying to keep it spoiler free, but if you don't want to know anything, just wait.

As you may be aware, I am currently playing the game from Telltale. I have also been reading the books (I know. I really do know, but I have actually had them on my list of books to read for about eight or so years now to be fair. But after rewatching the series, I decided to try to read them all in time for the premiere. With life as it is, though, I am only on Clash of Kings, but I will definitely get them read. I also have studied the world in a lot of detail, even when I haven't read all the books so I know a lot about what's coming when I probably shouldn't). My husband and I usually plan little events for premieres, but with the move, we kind of let this one slide sadly. However, this season - maybe for the finale - we will do a party type deal. :)

Game of Thrones Video Game Episode 3 Review

As I recently said, I have consistently been happy with Telltale Games although I've seen sort of a downhill trend these past few months. With that in mind, I went into Game of Thrones Episode 3 unsure how I would feel about it. I'm reading the books now and I feel like I am immersed in these characters' lives so much because we are also rewatching all the seasons before Sunday. It couldn't have come at a better time!

In Episode 3, I do feel as if choices are playing a bigger role. There are certain events that I don't know how they would turn out if I hadn't done certain things in previous episodes. Telltale does make a big deal about how important choice is, but in the last few games they've made, it seems like choices only let you feel like they matter. In the end, the game tends to be the same for most people, but I feel like that may not be the case in Game of Thrones. There are simply too many events with too many choices. I could be wrong, though.

Geek Fuel Review: March 2015

Geek Fuel is one of my favorite geeky subscription boxes, for a couple of reasons. There are less items than you get in some of the boxes, but in exchange, the items are all higher quality. You don't get a lot of swag or marketing materials, instead getting useful or collectible items - and I find they're more unique. In addition, every box has included a game code for Steam, which is a MAJOR reason this is a favorite. All these boxes claim to be for geeks and gamers, but this is the only one in the group (all in the $20-$30 range with shipping) that actually sends game codes every time. 

We Heart Geeks Shirts and Phone Covers Review

As I've said, I'm a big fan of Companion Tees, so when I heard that they had even more options available through a sister site, We Heart Geeks, I obviously headed right over to do some shopping. 

There's no subscription with We Heart Geeks, but they offer a lot of their geeky designs in men's and women's shirts, as well as onesies, phone cases, coasters, and more! Everything is available by searching the entire site or by searching through collections. Our order was all Game of Thrones, except for one item. 

The first shirt was "Arya's Prayer," which is an artistic representation of her kill list. Arya is my husband's favorite character and he's wanted this shirt for a while. He was really excited to get it.

Collectible Geek Review: February IWIA Collection

I've been not so patiently waiting for my Collectible Geek IWIA box to arrive this month, having ordered it on New Year's Day! All I have heard is how awesome they are and I subscribe to lots of geek subscription boxes so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Here's the answer: IT IS SO WELL-DESERVED. I actually moved blog posts around to make room to write this immediately. I received this yesterday and it's incredible.

Collectible Geek just posted some news last night, as well as announced that April's collection is Assemble (clearly an Avengers theme). March's collection (Totally 80's) has been sold out for a while. I am so glad I got the IWIA subscription as soon as it was available, and I am ready to find out what I need to do to upgrade to a year. I am that confident that this is well worth it. They set a very high standard for everyone else, though! (In addition, they are going to start donating proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project, making them even more amazing.)

The Collector's Cache theme this month was fantasy, which covered Harry Potter, Dungeons and Dragons, and Lord of the Rings. The IWIA included a focused Game of Thrones pack, too.

There was a special collectible poster, featuring Tyrion, Gandalf, and Harry Potter engaged in quite the tabletop game! Love this and it will be a perfect addition, with a frame, to my husband's "Man's Land," which is really just Geek Land at this point. I spend more time in there than he does, and the cats spent even more there! It's still a major work in progress so perhaps this summer, when we get it all together, I can share.

Game of Thrones (Telltale Games) Episode 2 Review

I love Telltale Games. As far as I'm concerned, they haven't made a bad game since The Walking Dead and I even loved the Law and Order game. So of course I will enjoy their take on Game of Thrones, a combination of one of my favorite developers and one of my favorite shows.

Game of Thrones follows the Forrester family, a minor family in the grand scheme of Westeros. Without giving much away, the first episode was INSANE. Given the characters you were dealing with, I guess it shouldn't have been surprising in the end, but it still was. So I've been anxiously waiting for Episode 2.

I have an Xbox, though, so since my season pass in on that system, I had to wait an extra day. I spent it replaying Episode 1.

Game of Thrones Card Game Review

This is a review of the Game of Thrones card game for two people from Fantasy Flight Games, which is a branched off version of the full game (and apparently simpler). I bought this game for my husband for Christmas, since we are both such huge fans.

You choose between House Lannister and House Stark. I knew I wanted Lannister, because I love them and feel they (except Joffrey) get a lot of bad press simply because the show made viewers believe they were supposed to side with the Starks. Although things have grown more complicated, it's almost like we were set up to see the Lannisters as the "bad guys," when they're no worse than the Tyrells or Baratheons. Besides, there are worse people, like the Boltons and Freys.

Anyway, my husband loves Arya, so that was fine with him.
