Exciting News from Starlooks Starbox!

I really loved my Starlooks Starbox when I received it, but then with the heating bill and moving coming up, I decided I need to put my subscription on hold until I got things settled. I don't really need makeup right now, but I loved their box itself, the quality of the products, and that the items are all cruelty-free. In addition, the customer service when canceling was exceptional and I knew I wanted to go back ASAP.

So I recently received an email from Starbox with some news about their subscription. This will be a change effective May 11 for the June subscription box. If you sign up now, you will get your regular monthly boxes until the June subscription. If you wait until May 11, you will be able to set up your account according to the new system.

Birchbox Review: February 2015

I canceled my Birchbox subscription, because they won't guarantee cruelty-free products and I can't really justify the expense if I won't use the products. I also feel like Birchbox is the industry leader in beauty subscription boxes, so they have the ability to demand better from the companies they partner with. My experience has been hit or miss, but theoretically I would have continued. I will sign up again if they ever provide a guarantee that they won't torture animals for hairspray. :/

Exciting News from Collectible Geek!

If you are not familiar with Collectible Geek, they provide two monthly boxes of collectible geeky items based on various themes. Just recently, they began offering subscriptions for one of their two boxes, but now you can subscribe to their ultimate collection!

The two box types are Collector's Cache and Build Your Own (BYO). You can also get the I Want It All collection (IWIA) and now both the Collector's Cache and IWIA have subscription options for three or six months. Collectible Geek differs from other subscription boxes in that it mainly is not subscription-based, but open by theme for the following month.

Here's a general breakdown of the system using January, February, and March for the example.

Mid-January: March's theme is announced (March will be Totally '80s).

February 1: All three March box options go on sale for anyone not already subscribing. When they sell out, they sell out (and they do within a week or so).

March 15: Boxes ship.

Little Miss Crafty talks about Little Passports

When Little Miss Boxy first started telling me about subscription boxes, I did a little research myself. The first company actually that I stumbled upon was Little Passports. Little Passports is a subscription company that helps your children learn about the US, as well as other countries, in a monthly, six-month, or twelve-month format.

One of the things that stood out to me were the options that Little Passports offers. As a mom of three children, whose ages vary from three to nine, I sometimes struggle to decide which option to pick for other subscription boxes. Little Passports offers three different boxes you can choose from!

Phone Case of the Month Review: January 2015

Phone Case of the Month is exactly what it sounds like: a monthly subscription that sends you exclusive designs for phone cases. Everyone's cases vary and it's also based on your phone type. I still have an old iPhone 4, so I don't know what that means as far as cases, but this one is adorable!

New Quarterly Box from Naomi Kyle

Naomi Kyle, host of The Daily Fix, is one of the newest to get a Quarterly box. This box will be focused on video games, pop culture, and art. I subscribed as soon as it was announced, because... awesome.

Little Miss Boxy's Subscriptions and Wish List

Recently, Little Miss Crafty gave a little introduction to herself, including her projects, interests, and goals. Since I don't make things, my goals are to keep opening boxes of things and that's not much for a post. :) So I decided to write up a little about the subscriptions I currently have, the ones I most want to try, and a little about my interests.

Current Subscriptions

My subscriptions change all the time, because I like to try everything, but in order to do so, I often have to put things on hold. There are also certain times of the year when I need specific items and others aren't really as important or I'm stocked up.

Right now, my preferences tend towards geeky things, food and snacks, eco-friendly and unique products, and high value subscriptions. For example, you'll see I have several geek box subscriptions and snack boxes. I started this blog, though, with Little Miss Crafty for the ones I was already subscribing to and that led me to signing up for a ton of new ones to try as well! As I try them, I'm always going to note whether it's a definite keep, a try again to see, or a cancel. Of course, my reasons are generally personal and I am willing to try anything because what's good for me may not be for someone else and they may love something I'm lukewarm about receiving.

To be honest, a huge deciding factor for me in choosing to keep a box is not just what's in it, but the customer service. I've been back and forth on a few, and when I feel like they actually care about their customers, I tend to be more likely to stick it out. Some of these boxes certainly have greater value than what you pay, but let's be honest - you probably aren't going to use everything. Part of the cost, for me, is also that I'm paying for products I wouldn't normally find at the store. If, however, the customer service reps are going to treat me the same as the cashier at Target does, I don't feel any reason to keep paying for the box. I've seen awesome service - and downright awful, and as my long-term subscriptions come to an end in the next few months, I already have some that are probably getting canceled immediately. It's amazing how little some companies value service.
