Rachael Burgess: "Falling" Single Review and Giveaway

We generally don't accept music, games, movies, books, or other artistic endeavors for review. Part of it has to do with the fact that it's subjective, but the biggest reason is that we feel like it's more ethical to support the arts and review honestly with no financial or other obligation to the artist. With that said, indie artists do need reviews and sometimes getting exposure can be nearly impossible.

When I came across Rachael Burgess' music, I saw that she was a singer-songwriter looking for reviews, but also just simply exposure for her music. Because it's a kind of music I really enjoy, I decided to give it a chance. It was only the one single, "Falling," and she was offering additional copies for readers as part of a giveaway. Again, this is a rare thing for us to do.

Music Box Review: February 2015

This month's Music Box wasn't as amazing as last month, but honestly that was pretty much impossible. Last month was phenomenal. This month's was still very, very good, though, and has plenty I enjoyed.

Each box comes with random items like signed photos and swag. Sometimes it's linked to the bands whose albums are included and sometimes it's not. Obviously getting swag from a band you don't know and don't have the album for feels kind of random, but you never know. Maybe you get lucky and find something new. This month, most of my swag was from the bands included. (To be totally honest, I don't really care about swag. I have a signed poster from Tori Amos and she's my favorite and I still don't really care. I'd rather listen to the music for the most part, but I think Music Box wants to offer additional items related to music. That makes sense.)

The Music Box - January 2015 Review

The Music Box has three options for subscription, all of which are ridiculously reasonable for music. The first is "The Envelope," which is simply a 20-song sampler. They also have "The Box," which includes a few CDs and random goodies. Finally, there's "The Bundle," which combines "The Envelope" and "The Box." This is January's "The Bundle." (When you sign up for either "The Box" or "The Bundle," you are asked for your favorite three genres.)
