Geek Me Box Review: February 2015

At this point, I've tried basically all the geek boxes. I haven't found one that does everything perfectly yet, although the closest for me is My Geeky Goodies. Still, most of them end up having something I like and things I don't, which is the pro and con of subscription boxes. 

Geek Me Box is another fairly new option and they don't seem to have a theme. This box didn't have an info card, although there was a typewritten note that mentioned that, due to the challenges with shipping this month, everything was a little last minute. I have to admit that I don't care at all about the info card except as a reference to make sure I get everything (although there were some glaring grammatical issues in the letter that drove me nuts, especially since it's technically a professional communication). That may also be why this didn't feel all that themed (although it's one of the more gamer-oriented boxes, even over the ones claiming to be gamer-oriented - AND there was a variety of systems represented). 

Geek Fuel Review: January 2015

It's official. I have an addiction, and I need to pick up more work just to feed it. All these geek boxes are going to be the end of me, I tell you. I can't decide between them, because they are all amazing. When Geek Fuel offered to send me a box for review, I was on that so fast! And now I have another new subscription after trying this box. Sigh.

Exciting News from Collectible Geek!

If you are not familiar with Collectible Geek, they provide two monthly boxes of collectible geeky items based on various themes. Just recently, they began offering subscriptions for one of their two boxes, but now you can subscribe to their ultimate collection!

The two box types are Collector's Cache and Build Your Own (BYO). You can also get the I Want It All collection (IWIA) and now both the Collector's Cache and IWIA have subscription options for three or six months. Collectible Geek differs from other subscription boxes in that it mainly is not subscription-based, but open by theme for the following month.

Here's a general breakdown of the system using January, February, and March for the example.

Mid-January: March's theme is announced (March will be Totally '80s).

February 1: All three March box options go on sale for anyone not already subscribing. When they sell out, they sell out (and they do within a week or so).

March 15: Boxes ship. 

Arcade Block Review - December 2014/January 2015

I love geeky and nerdy things in general, as does my husband, which is why Loot Crate started this addiction for me. When we decided to get Arcade Block, it only made sense. We're both gamers and here was a box focused only on gaming. Although there were some really great items in this month's block, this was probably my first slight disappointment in a box. However, I think it's also because I have higher standards for this subscription than most of the others. It should be a rare month when there isn't at least one item I love - and this one was one of those months.

The box looks like an NES :)

Horror Block: December 2014/January 2015

I'm not sure if this is technically the December or January block, since it shipped in December, but later in the month. So we'll call it December for our purposes here, but some people may consider it a January block.

Horror Block is a themed subscription box offered through Nerd Block with more focus on horror (hence the name, right?). We have a real love of the geeky boxes, but of course, your value is based a lot on whether you have a variety of interests related to geekdom. Since we love the majority of geeky things, it's a fairly easy fit for us. 

When you open the box, you get this message. :) My husband is a huge Walking Dead fan, so it works. 

Loot Crate December 2014 (Anniversary)

It only makes sense to start with a Loot Crate review, as they were the catalyst for my very unhealthy addiction! However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I do need to reveal that the images used in this post were from Little Miss Crafty's husband's box - as mine has been, well, looted!

The theme for this month was "Anniversary," and the box celebrated the anniversaries of several franchises that have really driven geek culture for some time now. We start with Batman, which is featured in both the exclusive comic book issue and the Funko Pop! figure (another exclusive). My husband was extremely excited to see these, because he's a huge comic book fan and Batman is obviously a favorite. I love any Funko Pop! figure, because they're just adorable. This Joker-Batman went very well with my husband's gift of Arya for Christmas.
