It seems like a silly thing to be excited about reviewing a Pulse Oximeter, doesn't it? However, I was! This opportunity was awesome for me because I am a mom of child with asthma, who also gets a lot of respiratory infections requiring a nebulizer to treat. PLUS I am a medical assisting instructor.
Right out of the box, of course, I tried this on every person in the family. Thankfully, we were all at 99%, which is good.
I then took a look at the features. There are several things I really like about this. First, the design of the product itself is great. It is well-made, has a soft cushion inside where your finger goes, and it clamps down perfectly, not too tight, not too loose. The numbers on the screen are easy to read, and not only do you get the pulse ox reading but the pulse as well.
Another feature that is nice about the screen is that it rotates horizontally and vertically, depending on how you are holding it. It also has an auto-shut off so that you don't have to worry about draining the batteries by leaving it on. I also love that it comes with a long lanyard so that you can easily wear it around your neck, as well as includes a compact little carrying case.
One of the best features, though, is that it has an alarm. Not the kind of alarm that wakes you up in the morning, but one to alert you if a pulse ox reading is under a certain number. What is especially nice about this is you can set the number you want the alarm to go off at. We have it set at 96 for our house because my son with asthma is generally lower than the 99 %.
After testing it out at home, I took it to work and let my students have a whirl with it. Every single student who used it LOVED it. I heard comments like, "I love how portable it is" and "I love the color."
I am so glad to be able to add this device not only to my home life with my kids, but to the classroom as well, giving my students yet one more thing to provide hands on skills.
Thank you so much Gurin for offering me this product to review!
