Slow Cooker Cookbook for Beginners Review and Giveaway

Sometimes fate really knows what you need. I have been eyeing a slow cooker for a while and it's been sitting in my Amazon cart. So when I was given a chance to review the Slow Cooker Cookbook for Beginners from Antares Press, it seemed like the ideal chance to go ahead and buy it!

The cookbook is available in both ebook and paperback. I have it in iBooks on my iPad, which is great for setting up the recipes. I can just open the bookmark for the appropriate recipe and put my iPad to the side of the counter when preparing the meal.

The cover of the book identifies these as weight loss recipes, although I didn't check the caloric content of any of them. I'm not sure if I would call it a diet cookbook, but it's helpful for people new to slow cookers certainly!

There are 6-8 recipes in each section (with a total of 55) and the sections are divided up as Appetizers, Soups and Stews, Meats, Vegetarian, Sides, and Desserts. There is also a handy conversion chart at the end.

I love the variety of recipes included. For example, the Appetizers section has one for Balsamic Almonds and another for Buffalo Meatballs. The level of difficulty and number of ingredients also varies, which is good for finding a quick recipe or if you are planning a bigger event. I also appreciated the Vegetarian section.

My favorite recipe was Tropical Bananas Foster, which is something a bit more complicated that I would likely never make on my own without a recipe. It includes bananas, rum, ice cream, coconut milk, and fresh pineapple - what a delicious treat!

Admittedly, with the number of apps and blogs that feature recipes these days, cookbooks are sort of a thing of the past. However, the ebook is $2.99, which is pretty reasonable since some apps are close to or more than that. I feel like it's a good investment for the variety offered within the cookbook. It's also really designed for beginners, who maybe got a slow cooker for a gift and don't know where to start. Nothing is very complicated, but the meals are also at least interesting. It's a nice balance in my opinion.

We will be running a giveaway for ten copies on our Facebook starting February 18 (ebook). However, you can also grab the book free on Amazon for Kindle from February 15 through 17!
